For both large and small chain rings to have the same POWERING duo-oval curvature above W2T level, RIDEA launched exclusive 4 arms POWERINGs - R4 and cranks in April, 2009. SHIMANO launched the similar crank sets only in following May, 2012.

R4’s duo-oval structure is by far the best ergonomic design. Featuring 4 crank arms, R4 helps applying your pedelling force directly to the MAX power zone without loss by the 5th crank arm. It not only clearly defines 2 MAX power zones where the pedalling force is mostly applied, less PEAK POINT distance helps fast forward your pedelling past.

What is DUO-OVAL chain ring?

RIDEA launched its first POWERING in 2010. With years of experience in precision CNC manufacturing and ergonomic engineering, RIDEA made POWERING the first of its kind. Much improved from usual single-oval chain rings in the market. POWERING technology benefits you not only to power up your pedalling, it also minimizes damage to your Meniscals and loading on Lower-Leg Muscles by strengthen you stronger Thigh and Buttocks Muscles.
In order to enhance your muscles use, 4 levels of POWERING are available to ride with you every step of the way.

How DUO-OVAL chain rings compare to SINGLE-OVAL chain rings?

GEAR RATIO means the numbers of wheel spins for each and evry circular motion (Crank) that has been made.
In below graph, tested by BC LABO with RIDEA’s W3t DUO-OVAL chain ring and 2 other known OVAL chain rings in present market. Use of 53T front and 16T rear circular chain ring, the ratio will be 3.125, thus with one time crank, the wheel will spin 3.3125 times. When using OVAL RING, the gear ratio will most certainly be changed for every individual circular motion (Crank), which also show that OVAL chain ring has the same efficiency as while shifting chain rings.

RIDEA’s POWERING has more to all levels and conditions of riding

The pie chart on left shows the lowest gear ratio is when the crank arms are at 6 and 12 o’clock positions and it will reach the maximum torque when the crank arm is from 2 to 4 o’clock where the ride can really feel how smooth the transition of the gear ratios are. And, the gap of the pedal feels a lot less at the top and bottom peak. Smooth transition means less harm to your knees and muscle adaption to DUO-OVAL chain ring. It also prolongs your riding time and energy saving.


TYPE of

RIDEA offers 3 types of POWERINGs. Other than styling to match your bike, more importantly the depth is crucial to the stiffness of your pedaling. As the depth of POWERING increases, it is more efficient for heavier pedaling. Our FF (AERO) Ring are super stiff and widely used by time laps or triathlon riders who constantly pedal hard in long races; LS and F rings are moderate stiff for training or race with excellent performance, L rings are the least stiff but super light weight to do daily rides.

We are fully aware that when you shift from round ring to DUO-OVAL POWERING, not just a new padeling rhythm needs to adjust, your muscle memory and knee pressure as well need adaption, drastic level change could be harmful to your knees and riding experience. RIDEA offers 4 levels of POWERINGs. Whether you just started to using POWERING, wishing to level up, or attempt to make new record, POWERING has the right chain ring for you.

POWERING is DUO-OVAL chain ring, therefore its shape has two sides shorter and two sides longer than round ring. Our definition of levels are the gear teeth differences on the two sides. For example W4T has +4T to the longer sides and -4T to the shorter sides compare to same gear ratio of round ring. The greater the Ts are, the longer distance between the chain and the center of axis , the greater Torq. When the greater torq with the same pedaling force applied, the greater driving force to the axis. Meanwhile, the shorter sides returns fater and ready for your next stepping. The greater level POWERING, the greater acceleration, the greater energy saving.

W1T is 1T less than all-round ring on the shorter side, and 1T more on the larger side. W1T has the lest curvature to help your thigh and buttocks muscles adjust from all-round ring pedaling to POWERING. After training about 3000~5000km, your muscles should be ready for W2T

W2T is 2T less than all-round ring on the shorter side, and 2T more on the larger side. W2T has the best ergonomic property for average training and casual racing. Once you find riding W1T easy, your thigh and buttocks muscles should be now in a perfection condition for race and challenges.

W3T is 3T less than all-round ring on the shorter side, and 3T more on the larger side. W3T is a perfect training chain ring for intensive power training, its +3T curvature can maximize your muscle boost and helps enhance racing performance. Recommended for training and short distance race.

W4T is 4T less than all-round ring on the shorter side, and 4T more on the larger side. W4T has the largest torque drive for peddling, therefore the maximum power boost. Specialized for road/time races and triathlon.
